Warrgin Plantation Forest Harvest

Harvesting closure

From May – August 2026 (weather permitting), we will harvest an area of mature southern pine plantation in our Warrgin Plantation, Kuranda State Forest. The southern pine trees at this location were planted in 1992/93 and were established to supply local sawmills with sustainably grown timber to produce a wide range of products, including structural timber for residential construction. See map here

Harvesting is expected to occur over a 10–12-week period (weather permitting). The timber will be transported from the harvest site to the mill at Mareeba and Townsville via Oak Forest and Myola Roads to Kennedy Highway. See map showing haulage route here. Our haulage planning has taken into account adjacent residents and land use and will involve:

  • single semitrailer trucks classified as General Access Vehicles
  • approximately 20 truck movements per day
  • operations limited to Monday to Friday, commencing at 4:00am and concluding before 5:00pm
  • drivers will comply with strict driving protocols, including reduced speeds through built up areas, school zones, and high use community locations.
  • haulage vehicles fitted with driver safety and surveillance technology, including eye monitoring systems, forward and rear facing cameras, and speed monitoring systems.

Harvesting operations will involve the use of tree felling machinery, loaders and haulage vehicles. To enable contractors to undertake the harvesting and haulage safely and efficiently and to ensure public safety, there will be no public access permitted through the harvesting or re-establishment worksites. Signage and barriers will be in place to advise the public of the areas that are not accessible. When harvesting is adjacent to the roadway, traffic control measures may be implemented to manage interactions between harvesting activities and road users.

Following completion of the harvest, the site will undergo site preparation and will be replanted with southern pine seedlings. This will ensure the ongoing supply of sustainably grown plantation timber for Queenslanders into the future.
